Step Up to Leadership (1 Day)

Course Information

One Day Seminar
Leaders build people and manage processes. Managers manage processes… therein lies the key difference between the two. Going from Manager to Leader is not just changing the details on your business card. This is a totally different game.
Managers must switch gears and think of their role in a completely different way. Many organisations place people in positions of added authority, but unfortunately do not provide the training to enable the newly promoted Leader to be successful. This adds great stress to the individual and the organisation. We all know that being the star player doesn’t mean you will be the best coach for the team. The skill sets are different. Promoting the technical or functional specialists to have responsibility for others, without providing the best practice on how to lead others, is a formula for trouble.
This One Day Course overcomes these difficulties by covering the 4 key elements of Leadership success:
1. How to lead not just manage
2. How to have outstanding leadership communication
3. How to be an effective coach of your direct reports
4. How to manage people’s performance
• Achieve whole team results and hold everyone accountable
• Discover their own leadership style and understand that this has a huge impact on the effectiveness of subordinates
• Appreciate the real potential of all of the team members
• Build solid relationships of mutual trust and respect
• Develop and maintain processes and procedures that define performance
• Do delegation that works
• Define strong team purpose, values, and expectations

Any supervisor or manager who wants to increase productivity, lift morale, and improve quality. This program helps new supervisors and managers get off on the right foot. It also helps veterans make the difficult but necessary transition from managing to leading.

How To Step Up From High Potential To Leader
We promote High Potentials into positions as leaders, give them no traing or support, allow them to fail and then fire them. This is crazy. We need to provide them wih a proper understanding of the difference between being player and being a leader, between following and directing others.

How To Go From Doing To Leading
What made you great is probably missing from the people you have been placed in charge of leading. The temptation is to keep working as a producer, while playing the role of the leader, to hold together the team's capacity to reach it's targets. This works for about two to three years and then the capacity you have as one person, to produce hits it's natural limits and the gap between actuals and targets starts to widen. In short order you get fired or demoted because you haven't been able to produce the goods. The answer is obvious, don't just give them the title and the accountability - give them the training they need to succeed. This way, we keep our best people and can produce a proper succession plan for the organisation.
